170-Hour CDL A Training Course
A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A 170-hour course is an intensive training program designed to comply with State and Federal ELDT training and prepare students for a career in commercial truck driving. The course is typically conducted over a period of four weeks and comprises both classroom and hands-on instruction.
During the classroom portion of the course, students learn and prepare for their Class A Learner’s Permit and learn the basics of truck driving, including rules of the road, safety regulations, and best practices for operating a commercial vehicle. They also study topics such as trip planning and vehicle inspection.
In addition to classroom instruction, students spend a significant amount of time behind the wheel of a commercial truck during the hands-on portion of the course. They will receive one-on-one training from experienced instructors and learn to drive in a variety of settings, including city streets, highways, and rural roads. Students will also receive range training, consisting of couple and uncoupling, straight-line backing, offset backing, and 90 degree backing.
Throughout the course, students are required to demonstrate their skills and knowledge through a series of written exams and hands-on tests. These assessments ensure that students are fully prepared to pass the CDL exam and begin their careers as commercial truck drivers.
Upon completion of the course, graduates will take the State of Michigan skills test. This test assesses the student’s ability to operate a commercial vehicle safely and efficiently.
In addition to preparing students for the CDL exam, the Class A 170-hour course provides graduates with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in their careers as commercial truck drivers. They learn to navigate complex routes, manage schedules, and safely transport goods and materials across the country.
The course also teaches students about the various types of commercial vehicles and the equipment and technology used in the trucking industry. This knowledge is essential for drivers who need to troubleshoot issues with their vehicles and stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends.
Throughout the course, students also develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are essential for success in the trucking industry. They learn to make quick decisions and adapt to changing conditions on the road, ensuring that they can safely and efficiently transport goods and materials to their destinations.
Overall, the CDL Class A 170-hour course is a comprehensive training program designed to prepare students for a rewarding career in commercial truck driving. With hands-on instruction from experienced instructors, a rigorous curriculum, and opportunities for practical experience, graduates are well-equipped to pass the CDL exam and begin their careers as professional truck drivers.
